Ala Cheptini is a graduate of the Music High School of Tiraspol (the conducting department), and of the “Gavriil Musicescu” Music Academy of Chisinau, Moldova Republic (1997). She holds a Master’s Degree since 1998. She also took private singing classes with Eugenia Moldoveanu, Corneliu Murgu, and Prof. Toma Popescu – Wienna.
As soloist of the Doina Philharmonic in Chisinau she made her debut in 1995 with Carmina Burana by Karl Orff. Mozart’s Requiem, Faure’s Requiem and Rossini’s Stabat Mater followed. In 1997 she was granted the Special Award of the Composers’ and Musicologists’ Union of Moldova, in the silver Chrysanthemum Singing Competition.
She started her operatic career with Micaela from Carmen by G. Bizet and Mimi from La Boheme by G. Puccini at the Chisinau Opera Studio (1997). One year later she became a soloist of the Opera Theatre in Craiova – Romania.
Between 1998 and 2000 she sang Micaela (Carmen – Bizet), Mimi (La Boheme – G. Puccini), Liu (Turandot – G. Puccini), and Nedda (Pagliacci – Leoncavallo). Guest performance in various vocal symphonic and aria concerts. In 2001 she started to sing Violetta (La Traviata – G. Verdi) and Desdemona (Otello – G. Verdi). In 2002 she made her debut as Amelia (Un ballo in maschera – G. Verdi), Leonora (Il Trovatore – G. Verdi), and Maritza (Countess Maritza – Kalman), Floria Tosca (Tosca – G. Puccini).
In 2003 she became a soloist of the Brasov Opera and between 2004 – 2006, she has been a soloist of the National Bucharest Opera. (Ever since new roles have enriched her repertoire), Cio-Cio-San (Madama Butterfly – G. Puccini), Margherita (Mefistofele – A. Boito), Aida (Aida – G. Verdi), Santuzza (Cavalleria Rusticana – Mascagni), and Turandot (Turandot – G. Verdi).
